About Timber Pole Constructions
Welcome to Timber Pole Constructions. We are a collective of qualified trades persons with skills and experience in many fields including carpentry, stone masonry, joinery, landscaping, design and project management. We are located in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales. Our common interest is to create quality architecture and landscapes that are unique as well as functional. Our building style is inspired by traditional formulas but we use contemporary techniques and equipment to achieve architecture that is engineered to modern building standards. We are dedicated to the research and development of a sustainable building industry by sourcing materials that have low environmental impact. This includes materials that are both renewable and locally produced. |
Sustainability
The hardwood timber poles that we use in our constructions are supplied by Super Forest Plantations which is a local family business that own and manage several hardwood plantations throughout the Northern Rivers. These plantations are a mix of native species that have increased biodiversity and provide habitat for native flora and fauna beyond that provided by typical mono culture plantations. The species that are selected for these plantations produce highly durable class 1 and class 2 hardwood timber product which are also resilient to common pests like the Lyctus borer.
The timber poles we use are considered a by-product of the forestry industry. As a plantation matures, it is necessary to thin out a percentage of trees to allow adequate growth of a future product. These poles are too small in diameter to be milled yet are still strong and durable in its unprocessed form. For this reason, Timber Pole Constructions has developed techniques and strategies to utilize this product and apply it to the building industry.

Benefits
The use of unprocessed hardwood timber logs in architecture provides many benefits that common materials can not offer.
*It is natural, non toxic and does not require any chemical treatment. *It is a renewable building material that embodies carbon throughout its production unlike materials derived from unsustainable carbon producing industries such as mining. *It is locally produced which reduces transportation, therefore reducing carbon emissions. *It is stronger than milled timber of the same size. When a log is milled, 20% of its strength is compromised. *It is entirely utilized. When a log is milled, 60% of its mass is reduced to waste in the form of sawdust and off cuts. *It is a natural insulator, providing effective resistance to high temperatures. *It has natural acoustic properties that reduce the reverberation of sound. *It has the ability to blend effortlessly into any natural landscape. *It provides a unique aesthetic due to its individual character, organic shape and textural surface. |
